The major users of Heavy Fuel Oil are large processing factories and Co-Ops. It is heavy oil that has an appearance of tar/treacle. It is the cheapest of all oils, at nearly 8ppl cheaper than Gas Oil. The sulphur content is high and therefore there can sometimes be a smell when burning and also the sediment residue would be high. However Emo sell only Low Sulphur HFO which is friendlier to the environment. It needs to be heated before burning which adds to the cost of Heavy Fuel Oil.
